Obituary of Nancy Rea Smith
Nancy Rea Smith, 77, died June 17, 2021 in Aurora, Colorado. She was born August 10, 1943 to William Emil and Eleanor (Rea) Doughty.Nancy graduated high school in Carson City. She attended college and went on to marry the love of her life, Ronald "Ron" Eugene Smith, on March 2, 1962. They were married for fifty-nine years.Nancy, Ron, and their family spent the summers camping, fishing, and cooking. Whether at Diamond Lake where her parents owned a cottage, or Sun Lake with her mother and father-in-law, Daisy and Gene Smith. She loved her family, nieces, and nephews and always included them. Her children remember volleyball in electric storms, badminton at grandmas, pig roasts at Joyce and Dick's (Nancy's sister and brother-in-law), horseshoes, and of course there was always music, dancing, and laughter. Bob Hurst would play the guitar and they would sing by the fire the song, "That Dirty Old Egg Sucking Dog".Nancy volunteered at Blue Birds and sent her children to Awana's and Church Camp. She was a woman of endless hobbies ranging from gardening, ceramics, swimming, quilting, crocheting, cards, dice, baking, cooking, collecting, yard saling, junking and shopping. She had a special love for her pets, whether dogs and cats, birds and ducks, fish and frogs, mice, or the squirrel she fed each day in her yard. Nancy taught her children and grandchildren to respect and love animals and showed them how to nurse a baby bird or rabbit back to health. Her children share stories about her singing to Patsy Cline, reminiscing stories from Gone With the Wind. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, William and Eleanor Doughty; brother, William Doughty; and her sister, Bette Retter. She is survived by her husband, Ron Smith; three children, Scott A. (Britney) Smith, Sue (Robert) Jaworski, and Rhonda R. (Dave MacKay) Boyer; ten grandchildren, Amanda N. (Cole) Anglebrandt, Kristin R. (Justin) Cryer, Katheryn J. Cantrell, Cody R.
