Obituary of Keith Vincent Stovall

Keith Vincent Stovall was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 31, 1959 to Densil Stovall and Lois Stovall. As a child, Keith had ambitions of being an architect and a musician. After graduating from John Adams High School in 1976, he completed two years in an architecture program at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. Keith then enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for ten years. During his time serving, Keith received several awards and decorations including: Navy Good Conduct Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Basic Space Badge.Keith's musical ambitions started at the early age of ten when he received his first set of bongos that, according to his brother Kevin, played ALL OF THE TIME. His first band was formed in high school with friends who lived on the same street. They played awesome music, had sweet afros, and were known as "Hot Wax". Over the years, Keith led many bands, eventually leading to the one we all know and love: Phat Daddy and the Phat Horn Doctors. Keith met his loving wife, Rachel Stovall, at one of the band's shows and after marrying, played many years of music together.Of all of Keith's accomplishments throughout his life one of his biggest highlights and loves was his family. It brought him pure joy to watch his children, and grandchildren, grow up, supporting them through their various activities, and encouraging them to be the best they could. He was not only a father to his children, but he served as a father figure for many others in the community. He enjoyed gathering with friends to enjoy food, poker, sports, and fishing. Keith could light up any room and truly loved the people in his life.Keith passed away on June 20, 2021, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he was a cherished part of the community for nearly four decades. His battle over the years with diabetes and kidney failure shows his courage and winning spirit, all while keeping a smile and spreading joy to those around him. Despite his recent battle with medical issues, Keith remains a hero and stayed strong until the end.Keith was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Densil and Lois Stovall. He is survived by his wife, Rachel; their children, Teresa, Andre, Steve, Alicia, and Davon; their grandchildren, Ke'Andre, Nevaeh, Hailey, Angela, Darius, J.J., Elijah, and Aaliyah; and his brothers, Kevin and Dale Stovall.
