Obituary of Forest Ekin Wright
Forest Ekin Wright of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on June 26, 2021 at the age of 90. Forest was born on March 11, 1931 in the town of Adrian, Michigan and was the son of Cecil Ekin Wright and Mary Jenett Baker. Forest's formative years were spent growing up on the Birchell farm just outside of Adrian, Michigan, along with his two older siblings, Dean Edward Wright (deceased) and Jean Elizabeth Wright (deceased), and his three younger siblings, Clyde Elton Wright, Gary Emerson Wright, and Kent Erlin Wright.Forest always spoke of great fondness of having grown up on a farm and the values that were instilled in him early in life that guided his moral principles for the remainder of his life.In 1950, Forest met the love of his life, Ruby Marie Van Tuyl, while she was waiting tables at a local restaurant in Adrian. Ruby often spoke glowingly of how Forest would attempt to impress her by leaving twenty dollar tips on small restaurant bills. Forest and Ruby were married on September 10, 1951 and remained happily married until Ruby's death on December 11, 1998.In October of 1951, Forest enlisted in the Air Force and served proudly and honorably for eight years. While in the Air Force, Forest had the opportunity to travel to several parts of the country and overseas. He was stationed here in the United States at Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Jolton AF Radar Station in Madison, Tennessee and was sent to Seoul, Korea for about a year as part of the Korean War action. He expressed pride and gratitude for his years served in the military.Upon leaving the Air Force, Forest and his growing family would ultimately relocate to Colorado Springs in the early 1960's, where Forest would find his career niche as a carpenter. Forest also spoke proudly of having played a role in the construction of many iconic structures in the Pikes Peak region, including work on Seven Falls and the Garden of the Gods country club and golf course. In his later retirement years, Forest enjoyed driving around the United States to visit family and friends that had dispersed all across the country.
