Obituary of Lois Mai Prothe
Lois Mai Prothe of Colorado Springs died peacefully on July 10, 2021 and was welcomed to the place prepared for her in Heaven. She is survived by her husband, Milford, to whom she was married for sixty-four years; daughter, Rachel (Kenneth) Schipper; sons, Curtis (Marjorie) Prothe and Alan (Leanne) Prothe; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, William and Carolina Schepman; brother, Berne Schepman; and sister, Alice Lowe. She was born on a farm near Frederick, Kansas on January 7, 1933 and was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Holyrood, Kansas. She has always remembered the Dust Bowl days and shared stories of her life on that Kansas wheat farm. Lois completed a teaching degree at St. John's College, Winfield, Kansas in 1953 and subsequently taught grade school at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Kansas, where she met Milford. They were married in 1956 and moved to Colorado Springs in 1959. After raising her children, Lois taught preschool for several years until she became Daycare Director at Redeemer Lutheran Church. She has always valued education and loved children, many of whom still remember "Mrs. Prothe".For sixty-two years, Lois and Milford have attended Redeemer Lutheran Church where Lois has faithfully and cheerfully been involved in many ministries, including Bible studies, ladies groups, outreach programs and choir. She has always been a woman of faith, caring for others in practical ways, and remembering many loved ones with handwritten birthday cards. Lois was a loving wife and mother, caring for her home and family, and keeping everything running smoothly. Purposeful and never idle, she enjoyed planning meals, cooking, reading and gardening. She will be greatly missed, even as we rejoice that she has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.Visitation, 9:30AM, Friday, July 16, 2021, Funeral Service following, 10:30AM, Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2221 North Wahsatch Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907.
