He began as a disc jockey at a radio station in Lake City, Florida. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Pharmacy. Lee also founded, was the bandleader, and played the trombone in The Cigar City Big Band in Tampa, Florida, which is known for its 1940's big band swing style.Lee was a private pilot and owned his own airplane. Later in his life, Lee moved to Colville, Washington because he fell in love with the scenic beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and it afforded him the opportunity to live the life he wanted.
