Obituary of Kerrie Tunnah

Kerrie Tunnah, a beautiful daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 6, 2021, at home in her bed after a 21-month battle with brain cancer. She was surrounded by those who loved her dearly. Kerrie was born on December 6, 1968, in Leicestershire, England. She went to Loughborough High School where her love of art and art history developed. This, combined with her work in her family's textile factory, created a love and understanding of fabrics. She studied textile design and management at the University of Leeds and thoroughly embraced university life, her independence, and her coursework. She met a boy at the end of her first year and they just connected. Their relationship deepened, and so there was never any question that when they graduated, they would try to find jobs in close proximity to each other. Phil and Kerrie's love only grew stronger, and that connection carried them through a beautiful life together for 33 years.Kerrie's first job was Assistant Buyer at TopShop, a popular British retailer headquartered in central London. This position united her love of fabrics, design, and fashion. Later, Kerrie applied to be a buyer at Marks and Spencer, which is an iconic retailer of quality British goods. This was understandably a very highly sought-after job, and after competing against 600 applicants for the position, she was selected as Buyer for Ladieswear. She loved the 6 years she spent as a fashion buyer in London. In 2000, when her first son, Jacob, was 8 months old, she encouraged and supported Phil to take a job opportunity in Cincinnati, Ohio, thus starting a new life in the States. Kerrie gave up her high-profile career, and with their savings invested in this relocation gamble, she took on being a stay-at-home mum in a new country, not knowing a sole. She overcame all these obstacles and made a new life for herself and her family. After 2 years, Phil was unexpectedly offered another job opportunity, this time in Fort Myers, Florida. Although six months pregnant with her second son, Samuel, Kerrie supported this relocation and once again started over in a new place. She developed a strong group of friends who continue to connect and support her family to this day.In 2010, the family moved to Colorado Springs, with Kerrie being the rock and anchor supporting the transition to another new city. She loved Colorado life and joined a hiking group, took ski lessons, played bunco, and went to pink flamingo neighborhood gatherings and Boy Scout meetings. The family enjoyed many wonderful outdoorsy vacations. Kerrie also continued her passion for fabrics and design by working initially at Ethan Allen and then later at the Perfect Shade in Monument. Her greatest pride was her two boys and the young men they have become. All of Kerrie's love was poured into them, along with her no-nonsense "get on with it" attitude. She was so pleased to see their progress in their education and knew they would be ready to start promising careers in the future. In November 2019, she was diagnosed with brain cancer, and she managed the treatments and rate of deterioration on her terms with grace and dignity. She lived a full life with a mantra of "life is amazing and such a gift, so don't ever squander it." Her infectious optimism and love of life's adventures will continue to drive all those who knew her.She is survived by her husband, Phil Tunnah, and her two sons, Jacob and Samuel. She leaves behind her sister, Lucinda; her mother, Geraldine; stepfather, Stephen; her father, John; and stepmother, Marilyn.Memorial Service, 10:30AM, Friday, August 27, 2021, The Springs Funeral Services - North, 6575 Oakwood Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80923.Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, masks will be required to be present for the memorial. The service will be streamed live, the link to watch is located in the events below. We ask in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to the National Brain Tumor Society athttps://nbtsevents.braintumor.org/KerrieTunnah.
