Obituary of Jimmy Taylor, Jr.
Unflappable. Family-centered.These are only two traits of the admirable man named Jimmy Taylor, Jr., who left our midst on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, in his home located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born to Jimmy and Cathier Taylor on July 22, 1949, in St. Augustine, Florida. A gentle giant of a man, he was fondly loved by friends and family early on. He attended schools in St. Augustine, Florida, graduating from Murray High in 1967.Skilled. Studious. Steadfast. In adulthood, he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering, being hired by Hewlett-Packard in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Wanting to see more of the world, he relocated his family, Debbie, and their son, bubbly Jimmy III, to Colorado Springs. The high school sweethearts settled out west and added a daughter, energetic Alicia, and quiet Michael, to their nest. Surrounded by the unrelenting love of their parents, these three thrived and experienced new people, adventures, and places through special events, travel, and family time such as bowling, golfing, riding bikes, vacationing, cooking, listening to music, working on cars, maintaining his yard; and playing cards, tennis and racquet ball. The addition of Alicia's husband, Bryan, added more joy. Jimmy retired from HP as a Computer Engineer and worked as a school bus driver, postal service employee, technical support technician and entrepreneur.Country boy at heart. Ingenious on many levels. He mastered golfing, bowling, growing trees to sell, working on all the cars in the house, and carpentry was one of his favorite hobbies. Also, a hammer and a saw were magic in his hands, building two houses for his family and many tables and clocks. What a grandfather!Debbie and his life was forever changed with the arrival their grandchildren, first, Tiana, next Kaden, and lastly, Kaleb. Each one is uniquely different, but all pulled on their grandmother and his heartstrings. Their legacy lives in these much loved and adorable grandchildren. Those who cherished him but preceded him in death: parents; brother, Richard Taylor; sister, Carrie Taylor Wright; favorite aunts, Oceola Adams and Rutine Kelley; grandparents, I.B. Barnes, Lubell Coleman, Rich and Cherry Taylor. His smile, warm embrace, and wisdom will be missed by sons, Jimmy Taylor, III and Michael Taylor; daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Bryan Thomas; grandchildren, Tiana Taylor, Kaden, and Kaleb Thomas; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and James Whitfield; nephews, Daryl, Lazar, Anthony, Marvin, and James; nieces, Kellise and Krysta; aunt, Gloria Wallace; uncles, David and Otha Davis.Services were held, in private, with his immediate Colorado Springs family on Monday, August 30, 2021, at The Springs Funeral Services-North.Condolences can be sent to his home address or athomas@newmeasures.com
