Obituary of Wilma Louise Strachan

On Thursday, September 9, 2021, Wilma Strachan, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at age 88, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.Wilma was born on February 22, 1933 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado to William and Leona (Stewart) Howland. She grew up in Florissant, Colorado, then Old Colorado City, attending Colorado Springs High School where she met her future husband, William "Bill" Strachan. They married on June 28, 1949, and lived all throughout the Western states as they moved for Bill's career with Western Electric, eventually settling in Widefield, Colorado in 1962 where they raised four daughters, Susan, Linda, Karen, and Vicki.Wilma had a passion for Japanese Bunka, painting, needlepoint, ceramics, bowling, pinochle, camping, and fishing. She shared her love of the arts by teaching bunka, painting and ceramics at Fountain Valley Crafters in Security, Colorado, with a crowning achievement being a first-place ribbon for a bunka piece at the Colorado State Fair in 1988. She also loved sports, especially the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies, and delighted in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. She took great joy in her lifelong friendships, volunteer work at Eisenhower hospital, and her fierce competitive spirit during bowling league and while playing cards.Wilma was preceded in death by her father, William Howland; mother, Leona Howland; brother, Bob Howland; sister-in-law, Norma Howland; sister, Diane Sullivan; brother, Billy Howland; and son-in-law, Dennis Dean.
