Obituary of Bobby Gene Adair
Bobby Gene Adair was born on the 3rd of October, 1936, in Lamar, Colorado to Roy and Vaunie Adair. He was their second child. His older sister Mildred died of scarlet fever when he was two, leaving him to be the oldest brother to eight more siblings who followed in the years to come. He grew up around Bristol and Hartman, Colorado. He moved to Colorado Springs as a teenager to attend the People's Bible College. Colorado Springs remained his city of residence for the rest of his life. While at the Bible College, he met a young school teacher, Vivian Shreve. They were married in 1961, and together had three daughters-Roberta, Rebecca, and Catherine. Bob fulfilled his conscientious objector duties working at St Francis Hospital as an orderly in the psych ward for the first two years of their marriage. Later he owned a used furniture store, Economy Furniture, in downtown Colorado Springs. He sold the store in 1974 and went back to the Bible College to finish his studies in theology. Nearing the end of that time, he went to work for Charles Ledman Stucco and after finishing his studies, he bought the stucco company from Charles Ledman in 1976. With the help of his family, he operated that business until he closed it's doors in 2008. Vivian passed away in 1995. In 1998, he was remarried to Shirley Hahn.Bob spent the last several years of his life working on his rentals and closing out the leftovers of his stucco business. He was an avid reader of sermons and theological books and treatises. He had a large of collection of old hymnals and loved to read old hymns, often asking his daughters to play and sing them for him. Bob had been converted at age 16, and he never wavered in his walk with God. He set a grand example for his family of faithfulness in every part of life, at work, at home, and at church. He taught his daughters and grandchildren the value of hard, honest work. One of his grandsons remarked, as Grandpa was dying, "I owe three-quarters of who I am today to that man."Bob's last days were spent in Penrose Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was surrounded by his family, and spent long hours talking with them. The day before he died, although struggling to speak and breathe at the same time, he gave instructions about how he wanted to die, and firmly stated that he was ready to go when God called him home. He passed away in Penrose Hospital on September 22, 2021, at precisely 12:00 noon. Afterward, the nurses and doctors wept as they expressed their awe at his manner of dying. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Vaunie; three sisters, Mildred, Eileen, and Mary; and one brother, Duane. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Colorado Springs; his daughter, Roberta Loa and spouse, Miguel, of Colorado Springs; his daughter, Rebecca Garcia and spouse, Rigoberto, of Bernalillo, New Mexico; and daughter, Cathy Urias of Amarillo, Texas. He has eight grandchildren, Andrew and Benjamin Cenovio, Abigail and Roselle Garcia, Manuel and Juan Loa, and Vivian and Elijah Urias. He is also survived by one great-grandchild, Cruz Cenovio. He is also survived by two sisters, Vi Saine and Evelyn Hauptly; and three brothers, Lane, Donald, and Earl.He will be sorely missed by these people, as well as a large host of the relatives, friends, and business acquaintances.Visitation, 6:00PM - 8:00PM, Monday, September 27, 2021, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.Funeral Service, 10:00AM, Tuesday, September 28, 2021, The Springs Funeral Services.Masks/facial coverings are required.Graveside Service, 12:15PM, Tuesday, September 28, 2021, Fairview Cemetery, 1000 South 26th Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904.
