Obituary of Elvessie Jackson Taylor
Elvessie (Jackson) Taylor, 99, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2021 at Pikes Peak Genesis Senior Healthcare Facility. She was born on August 3, 1922 in Marlin, Texas to Lilbert L. Jackson and Mozelle Miles in Marlin, Texas. She was raised by her grandmother, Lula Miles, whom she dearly loved.Elvessie received her early education in Marlin Texas Public School. She went on to earn a certificate in Nursing Assistant and Childcare.Elvessie then moved to Fort Worth, Texas where she met and married Bennie Taylor in 1941. Bennie joined the Army during World War II and was killed in action 1943.Elvessie then moved to Kansas City, Kansas where she worked for the Hallmark Card family for a few years as a housekeeper and nanny. She then moved to Chicago, Illinois, in the early 1950's and worked for the VA Hospital as a nurse assistant. She then decided to work for Raytheon Manufacturing and ITT Corp. where she tested printed circuit boards. Elvessie retired in Chicago, Illinois in the late 1980's.Elvessie loved to entertain having dinners, enjoying music, dancing and was the life of the party. She loved to joke around with people.Elvessie attended Progressive Life-Giving Word Cathedral Church in Chicago, Illionois where she was an active member for many years serving on the Mothers Board. Later for health reasons, she relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado with her nephew and niece. She then united with the Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church.Elvessie loved to praise and worship the Lord. She was an encourager to everyone she met.She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny Taylor of Fort Worth, Texas; life partner, Vernon Cutrer of Maywood, Illionois; father, Lilbert Jackson of Pacoima, California, mother, Mozelle Jackson of Pacoima, California, sisters, Geraldine Delores Brewington of Palmdale, California and Luvellia Scott Suiters of Fort Worth, Texas.Elvessie is survived by her nephew, Dwight B. (Cynthia) Hunnicutt of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nieces, Charlene V. (Melvin) Hall-Keith of Palmdale, California and Darlene V. (Clarence) Hall-Green of Palmdale, California, god-daughter, Kimberly (Max-Maurice) Duncan-Martin of Nashville, Tennessee; and a host of great and great-great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.AcknowledgementEmmanuel family and friends your words have comforted us, your support has strengthened us, and your love has sustained us.
