Obituary of Robert Hammersley Oldach
Robert H. Oldach (Bob) passed away September 29, 2021, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he has lived for over 70 years. He will be remembered for the positive impact he had on thousands of lives as a husband, father, grandfather, friend and business owner. Bob is survived by his wife, Denise, his sister, Betsy Hammersley Moreland of Levelland, TX, his daughter, Liz Oldach, and 2 sons, Robert C. Oldach (Denise) and Chad Rueffert (Julie), all of whom live in Colorado Springs. Bob also leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Chloe Olson (Kip), Sarah Miles (Woodson), Michael Oldach and Rhys Rueffert, and great-grandson, Gabriel Olson. Bob was preceded in death by his former spouse Vina Nickels, whom he married in 1959.Bob was born to Carl and Betty Oldach in Philadelphia on March 23, 1937 and moved to Colorado Springs in 1951. Bob attended Colorado Springs High School, CU Boulder and Fort Hayes Kansas State. In high school he held jobs as a cab driver, bus driver and tour guide for the Broadmoor and enjoyed telling stories of guiding others through the city he loved. In 1958, Bob began work at the company his father founded, the Oldach Building Products Company, assembling windows in their home and delivering them to local homebuilders in the family car. Bob spent more than 30 years as President of Oldach Wood Windows and Doors and grew the company to over 250 employees across many states before his retirement. As a younger man, Bob spent many days skiing, scuba diving and playing racquet ball. Throughout his life he enjoyed travel, playing cards, and rarely missed Friday backgammon lunches with his closest friends. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Naval reserves. He spent much time in support of Southern Colorado Youth for Christ, and ran and sponsored their annual fundraising golf tournament, which now bears his name in memoriam. Bob also coordinated and sponsored the annual Old Tymers luncheon which brings together many of the people who helped build Colorado Springs into the great city it is today.Memorial services will be held at Woodmen Valley Stone Chapel (290 E. Woodmen Rd.) on Friday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations either to Southern Colorado Youth For Christ or Solaris Hospice.
