Obituary of Shizuko Devore

Shizuko Devore of Monument Colorado passed away on September 29, 2021. She was born on a farm north of Tokyo in the Tochigi region of Japan. Shizuko came into the world on February 22, 1930, the first child and daughter to her parents, father, Kunio Kawarai and mother, Shigeno Kaneda Kawarai. Seven other children would follow in the years ahead. Susie, as she was affectionately known, received an eighth grade education, leaving school at age 14, due to the war years in Japan and the need for assistance on the farm and with younger siblings. She met and married George Devore, then an American Soldier, stationed in Japan in 1955. Their home was blessed with three children, Barbara, Mary, and George, Jr. Susie was a homemaker for many years but later in life she worked as custom seamstress for Montgomery Wards and several other companies. Struck by the beauty of the natural world, Susie had a lifelong love of gardening and floral arranging. In her retirement years she pursued an interest in painting and became an accomplished landscape artist.Shizuko Devore is preceded in death by her husband, George Devore; her brother, Kioshi; and her sisters, Miso, and Toyo. She is survived by brothers, Shoji, Masanori, Mamoru; and her sister, Mieko. Her children live in Monument and Lakewood, Colorado. She has five grandchildren, Rachel, Joshua, Luke, Daniel, and Joseph, and seven great-grandchildren.
