Obituary of Rev. Kirk M. Fowler, Jr.

Rev. Kirk M. Fowler, Jr. was born in Lamar, Colorado on December 19, 1934 and went to be with his Savior on October 30, 2021.He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Joan K. (Smith) Fowler; their three children, King (Lucy Lee) Fowler of Clermont, Florida, Angela (Alex) Sapp of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Scott (Bobbi) Fowler of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie, Olivia, Nicholaus, and Noelle Sapp, and Brooke and Jared Fowler; two step-grandchildren, Jamie (Zac) Meidinger and Travis Robinson; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his step-granddaughter, Taryn Robinson, a 2005 USAFA graduate; and his parents, Kirk M. Fowler and Lee Anna (Buntain) Fowler; and his five siblings, La May (Fowler) Hale, Vaun (Fowler) Adair, Lewis D. Fowler, Brady K. Fowler, and Anna (Fowler) Stump.After high school he served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He attended Colorado State University, and graduated from Manhattan Christian College, in Manhattan Kansas, with a BA degree. He also obtained his Master of Divinity degree from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, and worked on his doctoral thesis at San Francisco Theological Seminary. Kirk served numerous churches in Kansas and Oklahoma before moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he was senior pastor at Village Christian Church and Community Christian Church. After retiring, he started a local business called A Beautiful Wedding Ceremony and officiated at thousands of weddings in the Colorado Springs area. One of the most fulfilling parts of his pastoral career was the teaching and development of hundreds of teachers of the Bethel Bible Series. His ability to inspire future teachers and trainers of this series was one of his favorite accomplishments. In addition to his pastoral ministry, he enjoyed leadership positions in both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America organizations. He also led several youth church camps. One of his life-long passions was baseball. He managed several youth baseball teams using his experience as a minor league player to teach and develop many future baseball players.Kirk served on the Rocky Mountain Region Christian Church Board of Directors and the Phillips University Seminary Counsel. He belonged to the Sertoma International organization and preached at numerous city-wide events to include the Garden of the Gods Easter Sunrise Service.One of Kirk's favorite activities was singing. He belonged to three different gospel quartets in his life and enjoyed singing Southern Gospel music. In his earlier years, he loved to square dance with his wife Joan; while in his later years, he enjoyed gardening and traveling with Joan. They traveled around America with friends and family. He loved to retreat yearly to Vail, Colorado with Joan, his children, and grandchildren. Kirk left many fond memories for his family and friends, most of all his faith in God. His Memorial Service was held November 17, 2021. Kirk was a supporter of Crossfire Ministries in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
