Obituary of John Anthony Wood

John Anthony Wood, 51, passed away on November 1, 2021, at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife at his side. John was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was born on December 20, 1969, in Seattle, Washington to the late Norman DeLee Wood and late Donna Francis (Holtom) Wood. He grew up in many states and settled in the Chicago area with his family for his junior and senior high school days, graduating from Oak Forest High School in 1988. John continued his education at DeVry Institute preparing him for his career in Information Technology. His IT experience grew through his time at different organizations including the North Palos School District in Hickory Hills, Illinois and the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, Georgia. Since 2009, he has been the Director of IT for Superior Steel Supply and its related companies. John was consistently up for new challenges, continuing to be self-taught and taking each project to creative completion while meeting the needs of a growing company. He was always willing to lend a hand to fellow employees, as well as a listening ear. On May 11, 2014, John married Fridah (Namirembe), who survives. After first meeting in South Africa in 2010, they began dating in late 2012 and continued their long-distance relationship between Colorado and Uganda until the month before their wedding. John was a faithful and committed husband, always wanting the best for Fridah. John loved kids and was an amazing uncle for nearly all his life. His dream of having his own child came true when Avery, who survives, was born in March of 2018. He brought John great joy and was dearly loved (and maybe spoiled too) by his daddy! John is survived also by his siblings, Bill (Christine) Wood, Rebecca (Dieter) Giselbrecht, David (Svitlana) Wood, Diana (Chris) Anderson, Karl Haefner, Peter (Cathy) Haefner, James Wood, Steven (Anne) Wood, and sister-in-law, Veronica Haefner. Many nieces and nephews will also miss Uncle John. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Eric Haefner. John cherished time with family and loved to travel, covering all fifty states and numerous countries in his lifetime. While gone much too soon, Fridah and his family can truly say it is "better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
