Obituary
Obituary of LTC Robert William Koneval, U.S. Army,
LTC Robert William Koneval, U.S. Army, (Ret.) 85 when he passed away in the company of loved ones on November 8, 2021, in Colorado Springs. Bob is preceded in death by his parents; and son, David T. Koneval, who also served his country on the U.S.S. Carl Vinson in the Navy.He was born on February 22, 1936, to William and Marie (Demchick) Koneval, in Cleveland, Ohio. Bob attended Our Lady of the Angels grade school in Cleveland then went to Saint Edwards High School in Lakewood, Ohio. Younger brother, Ken remembers his big brother as his champion, who had a unique way of guarding freshman Ken from the other juniors who insisted Ken should carry their books: after school, Bob took the books from Ken and threw them out the bus window! Bob has always been nothing if not decisive and resourceful throughout his life, and was looked up to by many, even in his teens. Serving for decades in the U.S. Army, Bob earned the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal, among many other honors. The whole family enjoyed being stationed throughout this great nation, from the beaches of Virginia to the beautiful forests of Oregon to mountainous Colorado and moving was always a family adventure. Bob served three combat tours in Vietnam and excelled as a Transportation Corps expert. After retiring from service, he served as an emergency management consultant for both the State of Colorado, and then the state of Florida. His commitment and stamina were in full force when, during a state-wide emergency in Florida, he worked throughout the event to coordinate critical supplies and service from a cot in the office due to the debilitating back pain prevalent in his later years. He had true grit, always!Robert is survived by wife, Jaqueline Ann Koneval; son, Gregory Koneval; daughter, Amy Lynne (Tom) Johnson; plus, seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, LCDR Kenneth Koneval, U.S. Navy, (Ret.).
