Obituary of Delbert "Del" Wach
"Now when I'm gone, I don't want anyone making a big fuss." Can't you just hear him? Always content not to be in the spotlight, Delbert "Del" Wach traded in this life for a much better one - to be in the presence of the Lord, the light of Glory, on December 20, 2021. The Message paraphrases 2 Corinthians 5:1-5 like this: we know that when these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they will be replaced by resurrection bodies in heaven-God-made, not handmade-and we'll never have to relocate our "tents" again. Sometimes we can hardly wait to move-and so we cry out in frustration. Compared to what's coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we're tired of it! We've been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies! The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of what's ahead. He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we'll never settle for less.Del was born at home in Hamlet, Nebraska, the last of six children of Alfred and Izola Wach. After graduating from Wauneta High School in 1953, he joined the U.S. Army. After his military service, he worked for Davis Brothers Drug Co. in Denver and later Colorado Springs. He made his career at Builder's Insurance Agency where he treated every customer like family - honestly, generously, and faithfully. Del married Judy Trojanovich in 1963. Fifty-eight years married, his final words were to her: "I love you, too," he whispered through labored breathing in his final hours. Del and Judydependable, respectful, hard-working, sacrificial loving, for better, for worsea gift of security, example, and legacy to their three children and families, Toni and Todd Morse, and their children, Tobin (wife, Kaylyn), Tabor, Troyer, Tessa, Teagan; Joe and Janae Wach and their children, Lexie (preceded in death), Sidney, Kelan, and Jada; Hans and Stephanie Wach and their children, Caden, Dacen, and Brielle. As those who love him and were loved by Del, "Dad", "Zedo", we aren't going to make a big fuss, but we do remember him in some pretty big ways. Here are just a few:Content, punctual, dependable, trustworthy. A man of routine. Valued friendships. Man of integrity. Mentor to many. Selfless, humble. On time. Best driving instructor ever. Always put his family first. (Seriously, Dad, you sold your 1960 Corvette convertible for a family sedan?) Coffee, every day, same time, same place. Great smile. Beautiful green eyes. Fantastic storyteller. "German door-checker" - check if the doors are locked, then check again. Turn off the lights and leave nothing plugged in, not even a digital photo frame. Receipt-keeper, checkbook-balancer, note-taker. Frugal - don't throw it away if you can fix it. Early morning walker, every day (darn that diabetes!) Incredibly resilientcould tumble down a flight of stairs and say, "I feel fine!". Bricklayer, driveway-keeper, pot-hole filler, snow-shoveler, water-diverter, car-fixer, fuel-filler, clock-winder, bear-fighter (built the toughest bear resistant trash can holders possible!) Corn-shucker, watermelon-lover, popcorn-popper, toothpick-chewer. Water-saver ("green" before it was a thinghe watered the flower garden with bailed bathwater!) Shoe-shiner, knife-sharpener, floor-buffer. Rocked lots of grandkids to sleep singing "You are my sunshine" Enjoyed softball, car racing, and watching boxing. Big fan of Lawrence Welk. Loved sardines, big band music, crossword puzzles, woodworking, books, furniture restoring, ginger snap cookies and a nightly bowl of ice cream. Cancer survivor. Diabetes survivor. Quiet faith. Trust in his Savior. Loved, oh so loved.
