Obituary of Daniel Bruce Rockwell

Daniel Bruce Rockwell passed from his earthly life into the eternal peace of his Heavenly Father on December 23, 2021. His life was filled with love, joy, laughter, struggles, wisdom, adventures, steadfastness, and peace. He was born to George and Mabel Rockwell on May 14, 1942, in Pueblo, Colorado. Dan is preceded in death by his son, Gerald Rockwell. Those he loved well and remain here are listed as follows: His wife, Lana Rockwell; children, Becky (Dan) Hewett, Greg (Michelle) Rockwell, and Don (Jennifer) Rockwell; grandchildren, Benjy (Kaylee), Jessica (Scott), Nathan, Emily, Justin (Jaime), Abby (Dar), Sarah (Brett), Hannah, Alli, Molly, Jonah, Jared, Cole, and the first great-grand child on the way; and his siblings, Rodney (Joyce), Jack (Judy), and Mary (Charles). Dan was also surrounded with extended family members, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Family was always an anchor to Dan in the storms of life and a supreme delight to him at gatherings. Laughter around the table, around the campfire, and around the christmas tree made his heart very happy. Dan spent many hours as an engineer at work and at home. He was employed as an anti-warfare submarine technician in the U.S. Navy, and a Process Engineer at IBM, Hewlett Packard, and Digital Equipment Corporation. He and Lana owned a giftware business where he employed his knowledge and intuition to creatively automate Lana's ideas into reality. He ended his career as the Facilities Director at Woodmen Valley Chapel in Colorado Springs. Dan accomplished countless home and community projects: auto repair, woodworking, home improvements, window treatments, motor rebuilding, cooking, and much more. Whenever Lana (or anyone else) proposed an idea, Dan would find a way to design and build it. He was often heard saying, "I can do that! How am I going to do that?" His creative solutions were a gift from His personal Creator and Dan reflected God's image well. Dan had several favorite pastimes over his seventy-nine years... Reading Tom Clancy and Louis L'Amour novels, gardening, building model boats and trains, swimming, cards, and board games. His most favorite of all was fishing! Whether on shore or from a boat, he loved to throw in his line and see what came up from the bottom of the creek, lake or ocean. He was a skilled fisherman and loved to catch his own dinner. One of the last meals he requested was fish, which Lana happily obliged. Dan had an enormous servant's heart. He loved God and reflected our Savior's ways as he did not shy away from people. He rarely said no to a request even if he didn't know right then how he would make it happen. He served people in teaching, pastoring, doing chores and activities with others, choir directing, and fixing things. You couldn't meet him without getting a big smile, a handshake, or a big hug. He loved people, he didn't know a stranger, and he rarely held a grudge. He was and is a genuinely happy man. Dan Rockwell, your presence in this world was legendary. Your grace, goodness, humor, and happiness will live with those who knew you and beyond. We will remember you well because you lived and loved well. Peace is yours.Memorial Service, 10:00AM, Saturday, January 15, 2022, Woodmen Valley Chapel, 290 East Woodmen Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919.Inurnment, Pikes Peak Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925.
