Obituary of Phillip Val St.Cloud

Phillip V. St.Cloud, known as Val or Valentine to his associates and clients, a thirty-one-year resident of Manitou Springs, died at age 76 on December 24, 2021 in hospice with his devoted husband of forty-eight years, Charlie Case at his side. Valentine and Charlie were joyfully married on October 4, 2008 in the beautiful gardens of their friend, Richard Tibben, in Nipomo, California.Charlie and Valentine maintained a large Queen Anne Victorian on Upper Ruxton Avenue in Manitou Springs, as well as a condominium on the Gulf of Mexico, at Pensacola Beach, Florida. Valentine particularly loved the ranch he shared with Charlie in the "Heart of the Rockies" in Park County, Colorado, where Charlie built for them a beautiful stand-alone library.Valentine also leaves behind his two wonderful dogs, his male, R-Too, and his young female, Lula, but he knew he would meet all his loving pets, in time, at the "Rainbow Bridge".Valentine's philosophy of life was to be happy, love one another, and practice every day family harmony. He found success, with Charlie's help, in real estate development and commercial investment consultancy and was, at his retirement, a senior managing partner in a multi-state firm of tax and investment counsel. He was pleased to be able to offer his advice to his clients in all matters in which money played a part.Valentine gave back to his city and county as a City Council person, member, and chairperson of the Manitou Historic Preservation Commission; a volunteer of the El Paso County Fair Rodeo Committee; and the first chairperson of the Manitou Springs Parking Committee where he pioneered the first "residents only" parking zone in Manitou, a benefit now enjoyed by most city center residents.Valentine enjoyed rodeo, art, orientalia, reading, and music, especially opera. He and Charlie were twenty-five year patrons of Lyric Opera of Chicago, attending operas twice each season, and twenty year patrons of Colorado Opera. No viewing or memorial service has been planned.Memorial contributions in Valentine's name may be sent to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, 610 Abbot Lane, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80905.
