Obituary of Cris William Curtis

Cris William Curtis, 74, of Peyton, Colorado, passed away January 6, 2022, at his home.He was born March 21, 1947, to Albertha Christine and Gold Monroe Curtis in Riverside, California. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to Northwest Iowa, on a farm where he was close to his grandparents and cousins. Cris was one of six brothers. His family eventually moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he attended Palmer High School. After high school he was drafted and proudly served as a Radio Operator in the U. S. Army from 1968-1972 and served in Vietnam for two years. Upon returning to the States, as a veteran, Cris was met with some adverse comments, but his nature was gentle, kind, honest, caring, generous and loyal. He moved to Woodward, Iowa where he met his sweetheart, Cheryl Trudgeon who boldly bought him a beer. Soon, they fell in love, and she became his wife. He was happy to call her "Love of my Life", confidant and best friend. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Cris worked for Grimes Canning Factory for several years, then his family ventured on to different parts of the country. He worked as a guard on the Pipeline that ran to Texas and eventually, they found their joy overlooking the mountains in Peyton, Colorado where they settled for the remainder of his life. He recently retired from Walmart in Peyton, and he and Cheryl celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, George Sharon and Robert Weatherbee. Cris is survived by his wife, Cheryl Trudgeon Curtis; his daughter, Crystal Ilene Curtis-Fore; and two sons, Curt Curtis and Cris Curtis, II of Peyton; granddaughters, Ashley Chalou of Summerset, South Dakota and Alisha Welchel of Colorado Springs; a grandson, Bill Welchel of Colorado Springs; three great-grandchildren, Emma-lee, Marshall and Landon Thompson; brothers, Monroe (Linda) Curtis of Granger, Iowa and Gold (Rosellen) Curtis of Simi Valley, California and Franklin (Kim) Weatherbee of Woodward, Iowa.
