Betsy's love for teaching children lived on long after her retirement. Her face lit up when she talked about the art of teaching kids with special needs. I got to know her as a member of her sister Ginnie's church group and she gave me this poem which I will treasure always. It has a special place in my classroom and I read it and think of Betsy- especially on the rough days.

My husband and I had the privilege of going to Star Lake with Ginnie and her family. That's when we got to know Betsy. She loved Star Lake. She told so many stories. My best memory of Betsy is when she dove into the lake like she was a teenager. She had such joy on her face

I grew up knowing Betsy as my Godmother. She played a huge role in raising me and showing me God. I have countless memories spanning years, but maybe my favorite is when I'd come in from playing outside with her dog Honey Girl and Betsy would let me dip my finger in the crisco and then in the sugar. She taught me how to ride a bike and how to swim. When I broke my hip she and her family were there to support me through it. I will always cherish the love and memories she gave me.
