Obituary of Gerald "Jerry" Carver Armstrong

Gerald "Jerry" Carver Armstrong, 87, died February 21, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.He was born May 15, 1934 in Fairmount, Missouri to Thomas Jack and Cuba Athelia (Hall) Armstrong.Jerry was color-blind but he never let that stop him! He was exceptionally strong not only physically but mentally. Jerry was an honest, compassionate leader in every endeavor.Jerry was a proud member of many societies and associations including: Zeta Chi Fraternity, American Mensa ltd for over 40 years, The International Society for Philosophical Enquiry over 30 years, Permian Basin Measurement Society, Instrument Society of America, as well as the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA). He was an avid motorcyclist, golfer, and pool shark.Jerry was a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout and a Korean War Vet, serving in the Marines between 1953-1955; he was the boxing champ in his platoon. Jerry then joined the Reserves, where he served for 6 years.After his service, he was a professor at a South Plains College in Leveland Texas, from there he served in many positions as an engineer in the gas and oil industry, culminating in a position with Phillips 66 Pipeline where he retired. Outside work Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends reminiscing about old times. He enjoyed traveling, volunteering in mission work in China, prison ministries and as a Sunday schoolteacher for adults and children. He also loved playing pool and golfing, he even golfed Pro-Am with professional golfer Sam Snead.Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jackson and Cuba Athelia Armstrong; brother, Jack Armstrong; grandson, Brian Armstrong; daughter-in-law, Selina Ann Armstrong; and niece, Susan Berryhill.He is survived by his wife, Peggy O'Neal Armstrong; sons, Gerald "Jerry" Armstrong II, Willard "Bill" (Joanne) Armstrong, James "Jim" Armstrong, Robert "Rob" (Cheryl) Armstrong; brother, James "Jim" (Penny) Armstrong; sister-in-law, Ramona Armstrong; Peggy's children, Annette Haynes, and Rene� Cowen; four nephews and nieces; twelve grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Memorial Service, 2:00PM, Sunday, February 27, 2022, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
