Obituary of David Llyal Drechsel

A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, David Drechsel went to be with Our Lord Jesus on March 12, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Myrtle; brother, Vernon; and sister, Marian Schiesser. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Gloria; daughter, Suzanne (Glenn) Tatum; son, Kevin (Karen) Drechsel; grandchildren, Hillary and David Kieta, Meghan Johnson, Juliana, James Tatum, and Zoe; siblings, Herbert, Jr., Duane (Marilyn), Vernell (Debbie), Patty Lysne, Carroll (Pauline); sister-in-law, Shirley (Vernon) Drechsel; and many nieces and nephews. He was born and raised in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for almost twenty-one years, being stationed in Oregon, Vietnam, Texas, Germany, Kansas, and finally in North Dakota. He then graduated from the University of North Dakota, and worked for ND State Seed as a crop inspector. David loved deer and duck hunting with his son, nephews, grand-nephews, and also spending time with his extended family. After retiring from his second career, he and his bride moved to Colorado Springs to be nearer to family. Always a sports enthusiast, he was an avid fan of the UND Fighting Sioux hockey team, Minnesota Vikings (SKOL!) and enjoyed Rockies baseball after moving to Colorado. More importantly, he always loved cheering on his grandkids in their different sporting activities. He also cherished his many trips to spend time with his Hawaii "ohana." He was so proud of all his family, and felt blessed about the many visits the family made to be him during his last couple years.
