Obituary of Robert Edward Searle

Robert "Bob" Edward Searle, 72, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 1, 2022, after complications stemming from dental surgery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Bob was born and raised in Oakland, California to George and Frances Searle (both deceased). In his early years, he was in the boy scouts, loved the great outdoors, and had many hobbies including drawing and collecting baseball cards. As a teenager, you likely found him either mowing lawns for his neighbors, caring for his neighbor's chinchillas or on his bike delivering newspapers. These jobs would help him pay cash for his first car (and first love) a cherry red 1967 Chevy Camaro. One of his passions was bowling and he could have continued as a professional bowler in the PBA (a proud moment was his 300 game in 1983!). However, he chose a life with family instead.Bob received his degree from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Arts for Geology. He was a hard worker and had worked many years as a Draftsman at Chevron which was followed by retirement from Orange County, California as a land surveyor. He had a couple of successful side businesses: exterior home window washing and outdoor Christmas lighting/decorating. Bob was an avid biker and would put hundreds of miles annually to keep physically fit. He enjoyed hikes and even joined an expedition to the top of Mt. Whitney in the Sierra Nevada in 1994.In his later years, to keep himself busy, Bob continued working in a wide range of industries one of which as a home baker designing cookies, cakes, and other baked goods. He was young at heart, still collecting baseball cards and still tinkering with his model train layout. He was an active person in his community always lending a hand for those in need. He participated in the weekly Bingo games, calling out the numbers. He had space in the community garden and successfully grew tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, and other vegetables. He also enjoyed going on long drives with his wife, Shelley, exploring small towns and finding new places to eat. Bob had his own sense of humor and was easily liked and welcomed by many. He was a great storyteller and listener. Bob was a gentle, loving, caring and wonderful man that has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by his wife and best friend, his children, grandchildren and other family and friends.Bob is survived by many. He was a devoted husband to Shelley, the love of his life for thirty-one years. Bob was a loving father to Robert "Bobby" Searle (Casey), Marylou Yasutake (Ryan) and Sarah Searle (Eric Brink). He was an amazing stepfather to Christy Grover. Bob was a proud grandfather of Brayden Searle (Victoria), Royce Yasutake, Damon Rodriquez, Olivia Yasutake, Adryanna Rodriquez, RJ Yasutake and Mayumi Yasutake. He was an incredible step-grandfather to Jeremy Book and Jessica Walker. Bob is further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.A private family "Celebration of Life" will be held, in lieu of a service.
