Obituary of Earlene Celestia Pone

Earlene (Earl) Celestia Pone, 78, died April 25, 2022 of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born December 8, 1943 to Alonzo Edward Howard and Celestia Mae Howard in Lawrence, Kansas. Earlene graduated from Lawrence High School in 1962. She attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence for one year before transferring to Stormont Vail Nursing School in Topeka, Kansas. Where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse and was employed at St. Francis Hospital. She was married on May 16, 1965 in Lawrence, Kansas to Bill Pone. In 1979 she returned to college and earned her Bachelors Degree with a double major in Psychology, and Sociology from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, graduated in 1983 with honors as Magna Cum Laude. She taught Sunday school, Sunbeams ,sang in the Church Choir and she was a youth counselor. She worked with KAW Valley District youth convention while being a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. Earlene retired as Mental Health Therapist and was very active in Circle Drive Baptist Church, where she was also a Sunday School Teacher for over fifteen years along side her husband Bill. She was highly energetic and was not only a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader, but a Cub Scout Cubmaster, and a Webelos Den Leader as well. Earlene enjoyed fishing, reading, and played a big role in not only her grandchildren's lives but also her ten great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie (Bill) Dave Pone who passed away on their 29th wedding anniversary on May 16, 1994; parents, Alonzo Edwards Howard and Celestia Mae Howard; and brother, Alonzo "Steve" Howard. Earlene is survived by sisters, Alonda Martin, Renee (John) Candies, and Jesse "Pierre" Howard all from Denver, Colorado; her daughter, Carman Pone of Colorado Springs; and son, Anthony "Tony" Pone (Kristie Pone) of Peyton, Colorado. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Dustin Pone-Wall, Aaron Wall, Devante (AliceAnne) Wall, Adrian (Sarah Beemon-Grant) Pone, Alonzo Pone, Jasmine Pone, Robbie Reyes, Aliya Reyes and Jameer Gray; and her ten great-grandchildren, SeaAwna, Mariah, Maleah, Caine, Andrew, Elizabeth, Apollo, Nakita, Kennedy and Z�leena.She was known as "Mama" to more than just her family. Earlene was always willing to help anyone in any situation and was a huge KU Jayhawk, and Dallas Cowboy fan! Her favorite color was blue and she loved to sing and dance. Many lives have been touched by the influence and testimony of Earlene Pone.
