Obituary of Mavis Osborne Lee

Mavis Osborne Lee, 94, died May 16, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born April 30, 1928 in New York City, New York to Clifford Hazeldine and Beryl (Rampton) Osborne.Mavis was born of English parents, both of whom previously lived in London and decided to emigrate to America and reside in Maine. After several years studying at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, Mavis moved to Denver, Colorado, to explore the Rocky Mountain West. There she met her eventual husband, George B. Lee Jr., and settled to raise a family of four children.Mavis was an avid gardener, developing and cultivating vast and beautiful gardens in Denver, and the Pacific Northwest. She also loved bird-watching and fishing, and could frequently be found perched on a rock or stool along the South Platte, Cache la Poudre, and Taylor rivers during Colorado summers, casting small, wet flies to hungry trout while enjoying the song of a rare warbler. Mavis also took up watercolor painting in the mid-1970's and rapidly developed her skills, producing inspired scenes of nature thatbrought awe and admiration from friends and family. She was also an avid Scrabble player, a love she inherited from her parents. Most of all, Mavis was a dedicated and loving mother. She cared deeply for her children, and worked hard over the years to create special memories for her children.Christmas at the Lee house was a thing of beauty. Mavis was the mastermind behind every magical Christmas enjoyed over the years in the Lee Household, where many Christmas Stories were lived. As family matriarch, she anchored continuity across the ever-wideningfamily network, and worked to support and enable the dreams of its young and maturing members. She is preceded in death by her husband, George B. Lee, Jr.; parents, Clifford and Beryl Osborne; and brother, Timothy Osborne.Mavis is survived by her daughters, Gretchen (Mark) Adams, and Anne (Jean) DeVour; sons, George (Linda) Lee, and Clifford (Hiteshree) Lee; grandchildren, Andrea, Travis, Heather, Tiffany, Eric, Clare, and Justine; and eight great-grandchildren.Mavis passed peacefully a few weeks after reaching her 94th birthday. Heaven is the richer for her entrance into that realm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a small donation to The National Audubon Society in memory of Mavis Osborne Lee:please visit their donation site at https://act.audubon.org/a/donate.
