Obituary
Obituary of George Howard Porter
George Howard Porter, loving husband, father, and grandad peacefully went home to be with Jesus on May 20, 2022. George was 81. He was born on February 24, 1941, in Casper, Wyoming.George attended elementary school in Casper, Wyoming until the family relocated to Scotts Bluff, Nebraska in 1948. His senior year the family returned to Casper. He graduated from Natrona County High School in 1959. George spoke of having some problems in school due to day dreaming and staring out the windows. He just wanted to fly. After high school he enrolled in the engineering program and Air Force ROTC at the University of Wyoming. He graduated from the University in 1964 and had the gold bars of second lieutenant pinned on his uniform by his mother. He headed to Conley Air Force Base in Texas for his first assignment. There was just one problem. George didn't have the eyesight needed to be a pilot and fulfill his dream to fly. Therefore, he settled for Navigator training. However, in typical George fashion, he did not give up. He met with a family friend that was an optometrist. Leo gave George some eye exercises that would strengthen his eyes and George went to work. When that task was accomplished and his eyes were improved, he went on to be a pilot in the United States Air Force. George flew the A1 Skyraider in the Vietnam war. During that tour of duty his plane went down behind enemy lines. He spent a fearful night praying for his rescue. The Lord answered his prayer and George devoted the remainder of his life serving where he felt God called. George was eventually stationed at Reese Air Force Base where he served as a T-38 flight instructor. While there he met Della and they were married February 10, 1979. He adopted Della's daughter, Kim, age 5, that same year. George was honorably discharged from the Air Force shortly after the wedding. He secured a position with Boeing and moved the family to the Seattle area in Washington. In 1989, the family moved to Aurora, Colorado, to be closer to George's mother and grandmother. He continued to work for Boeing in a specialized program until he retired in 2008. In December of 1995, George and Della decided to enlarge their family and became foster parents to an 11-year-old girl, April, that was in need of a home. Once again, George shared his love and welcomed another daughter into his life. George is preceded in death by his parents George G. Porter and Dorothy Lane (Wilson) Porter. George is survived by Della his wife of forty-three years; daughter, Kim (Travis) Antons; grandchildren, Tanner and Chase Antons; foster daughter, April Gordon; grandchildren Mikala, Keegan, Hannah, Axl, and Waylynn; and sisters, Linda Nix and Louise Holloway.Visitation, 11:30AM, Wednesday, June 1, 2022, Vista Grande Baptist Church, 5680 Stetson Hills Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80917.Funeral Service, 12:30PM, Wednesday, June 1, 2022, Vista Grande Baptist Church, 5680 Stetson Hills Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80917.The Funeral Service will be streamed live.
