Carolyn was one of the most influential teachers I had in my life. I began college at Parkland in 1990 as a 33 year old freshman with 3 kids in grade school. That first semester I was in her life sciences class. Chapter 4: Gregor Mendel, punnet squares, and the double helix. She could DRAW a perfect diagram of a DNA molecule in the process of being transcribed into RNA. We all loved her lectures and the lab class, too. I loved DNA so much I pestered her with questions on a regular basis. She is the one who advised me to transfer to UIUC and major in cell biology, which I did. I eventually ended up with a masters degree focusing on molecular immunology - certainly not my original intention when I started at Parkland! I will admire and appreciate Carolyn forever. ❤️
