Gerda was such a lively woman when I knew her. Well into her 70's when I met her, she would go toe to toe at the poker table and tell you amazing stories while sipping a drink. Was it a Jack and coke? I can't recall. But I can recall her bright red hair and beautiful quilts and crochet, and stories of the "soldier guitar picking boy" in Germany when she was a waitress. He paid for her first wedding, and back then she didn't know how famous he was (she loved Elvis more than anyone I ever met.) The last time I saw her, I noticed her memory was fading. I moved far from C/S and am sad to say I didn't try to keep in touch. I was fond of her and hope her pleasant memories outweighed her struggles, of which I knew she suffered many in her long life. Gerda was special. She was loved. -Nicole
