Obituary of Michael Kurt Leidel
Michael K. Leidel of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his sleep on May 26, 2022, at the age of sixty-five.He was born on June 21, 1956, in Ludwigshafen, Germany to parents Kurt and Anneliese (Reiland) Leidel. When he was young, his family followed their dreams to a more opportune life in America, immigrating to Muscatine, Iowa where he gained his US citizenship in 1970. He graduated Muscatine High School in 1974, where he developed a passion for music, art, theater, and technology that followed him through his life. His love of technology drove him to earn his bachelor's degree of Business in Computer Programming. Michael pursued growth in his career by working in many roles at many companies, eventually leading him to John Deere Harvester in East Moline, Illinois. While at John Deere, he continued to develop his education and was able to achieve an MBA. He stayed with John Deere through the remainder of his professional life, well over twenty years until he retired in 2020.Throughout his life, he continued to pursue his other passions through his hobbies. He was a drama enthusiast and played a large role in the local community theater group, Muscatine Masquers, for many years, where he was both an actor and director. He would also spend his spare time jamming on one of his many guitars, and attending numerous concerts. He had a vinyl collection that would make any music enthusiast swoon. His love of art also played a huge role in his life, working with copious different mediums over the years and creating works of art that his family will cherish always.Family time was important to Michael, he regularly attended comic conventions with his children, Stephanie and Jon, and grew his collection of board games to play and enjoy with his entire family. As he aged, so did his taste in the finer things of life. Michael loved spending an evening in front of a roaring fire with family and friends, savoring a fine cigar. He is survived by his two children, daughter Stephanie Leidel; son, Jon Leidel by his former wife, Lorie Dent; father, Kurt J.
