Obituary of Harve Wesley Wolfe
Harve Wesley Wolfe passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at the age of 90. Harve was born on June 19, 1931 in Wichita, Kansas to Herb and Helen (Cain) Wolfe. He graduated from Main High School in Park Ridge, Illinois in 1949 and from Iowa State University in 1953 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and a ROTC commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. On June 14, 1953, he married fellow ISU student Bonnie McPherren in Newton, Iowa. He briefly worked at Square D before serving two years of active duty at Rushmore Air Force Station in South Dakota. Following his active service, he spent more than eleven years in the Air Force Reserves until he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in 1967.He began his engineering career at Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After stints with several companies in Wisconsin, he moved to Grove City, Pennsylvania in 1966 to work for Cooper Bessemer. He joined the Westinghouse Electric Corporation in the early 70's and spent the last two decades of his career as the plant engineer for multiple facilities around the country and in Mexico. After retiring from the "W" in 1993, he and Bonnie lived in Tucson, Arizona during the winter and enjoyed the beauty of Breckenridge in the summer. They were able to celebrate their golden anniversary in 2003 with a grand family reunion in Door County, Wisconsin. After Bonnie lost her battle with cancer in 2004, he relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado the following year to be near family. It didn't take long for him to adapt to the Colorado lifestyle and environment. He became an active member of Village Seven Presbyterian Church and his neighborhood community of Pion Sun. He enjoyed reading thick books, musing the deep matters of faith, mastering crossword puzzles, golfing with friends who gave mulligans, fishing the mountain streams for elusive trout, and unearthing the family's genealogical history. Over the past decade, he took the time to write and revise his life story and taught classes for others to do the same. Most importantly, he loved to communicate with and be around family and friends. Nothing made him happier than a family gathering with all the children. Just last summer, he got to celebrate his 90th birthday with more than forty family members in attendance. Affectionately known as "Gramps", his greatest delight was spending time with his multiple generations of grands. He attended all his grandchildren's graduations and was always quick to send a celebratory note or card, often an original courtesy of his old dot matrix printer. He was notorious for long road trips with side detours so he could spend the night in Olathe, Kansas, Jackson, Missouri or Muscatine, Iowa. He especially cherished his collection of "four generation pictures." His most valuable asset in life was a legacy of faith, hope and love, knowing the greatest of these is love. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Wolfe; granddaughter, Stephanie Bass; sister, Carolyn Nei; and parents, Herb and Helen Wolfe. He is survived by his five children, Steven Wesley (Debbie) Wolfe of Florence, Colorado, Kimberly Wolfe (Bob) Bass of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Richard McPherren (Lori) Wolfe of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Kathleen Wolfe (Dale) Hansen of Muscatine, Iowa, and Charles William (Debi) Wolfe of Tampa, Florida; twelvegrandchildren, Mike Wolfe, Melissa Relego, Katelyn Harbaugh, Libby Moss, Ben Anderson, Chris Wolfe, Joe Anderson, Christy Bass, Nate Wolfe, Caleb Wolfe, Becky Rogge, and Deanna West; sixteen great grandchildren, Sawyer, Olive, Grace, Eleanor, Esther, Sadie, Ava, Thomas, Ian, Libby, Liam, Cooper, Maggie, Jack, Joey and Evie; and three nephews, Mark, Scott and Eric Nei.
