Obituary of Janet Susan Frost

Janet Susan Frost, who went by Susan, was born on January 3, 1947 in Florence, Arizona and grew up on a ranch in Queen Creek, Arizona until she was twelve. She was the first child of Henry Frank Wright and Virginia Ruth Pickens, both natives of Arkansas. A few years later, she was joined by her little sister, Teresa. The family moved to San Bernardino, California where Susan attended middle and high school, graduating from Pacific High in 1964. They lived next to Susan's Grandma Pickens and the family ran a small fast-food hamburger stand. She decided to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where she became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1965. For a couple of years she lived in St. George, Utah and attended Dixie College. She returned to BYU in 1968 and her apartment of girls was assigned to have Family Home Evening, a weekly spiritual and social gathering, with an apartment of boys in the same housing complex. One of those boys was Brent Frost. Their first date was December 15, 1968. They were engaged on March 14, 1969 and married on August 1, 1969.The newlyweds settled in Brent's hometown of Glendale, California and immediately began their family. Todd arrived in 1970, followed by Ryan in 1972, Lane in 1975, Jared in 1976, Darren in 1978 and Chanel in 1980. She faced a severe trial in 1975 when Lane only lived 13 days. Her five surviving children gave her nineteen grandchildren, and one great-grandson arrived this past March. She is affectionately known as Nana to all her posterity. The impending arrival of Chanel in 1980 prompted a move to a larger home in the neighboring town of La Caada Flintridge, California. They lived in that house until June 2017 when they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to be closer to family.Susan's focus was her family and her faith. She was a leader in her church's Young Women organization for teenage girls for the first decade or so of her married life. In the mid-eighties she volunteered to teach an early morning scripture class, known as Seminary, for high school students. She taught those classes before school for thirteen years and then supervised a group of other teachers for another six years. She also served as president of the local congregation's women's organization, known as Relief Society, for four years. For seven years she was asked to manage the library in her church building, which served as a resource for church members, teachers and leaders. As usual she went above and beyond and began to bake cookies to hand out to those attending church services. She spent each Saturday baking dozens of cookies so she would have fresh, homemade cookies ready for Sunday meetings. In 2014 she and Brent were asked to direct the Institute of Religion at Glendale Community College for two years, providing religious instruction and social interaction for students attending that school. All of this while continuously serving as a member of that informal group of women who were always helping at baby and bridal showers, wedding receptions, funerals and other events, arriving early and still cleaning up long after everyone else had gone home.In June 2017 she and her husband sold their beloved La Caada home and miraculously found their new home in northern Colorado Springs, Colorado. Again, although she was now seventy, she was asked to work with the youth and young single adults at church. In July 2019 she suffered a stroke which left her with debilitating fatigue. Her diabetes had also reached a severe level. For the last three years of her life she was essentially housebound but uncomplaining. On June 6, 2022, she woke up in pain and after a short time quietly slipped through the veil to join her parents, sister and other family and friends, including her son, Lane. She is an elect lady, joyful and outgoing, who loved life. She is a faithful friend, mother and companion, and a shining example of devotion and diligence to all who know and love her.Funeral Service, 10:00AM, Saturday, June 25, 2022, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Black Forest Building, 6950 Shoup Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80908.
