Obituary of Lawrence "Larry" Bert Morehead

Lawrence "Larry" Bert Morehead went to be with his Savior Jesus on June 14, 2022 at 3:40PM. He was at home and just went to sleep and into the arms of Jesus. He had been suffering with dementia. He was the son of Wilbur and Theona (Whitmer) Morehead.Larry spent four years in the Navy Seabees (Construction Builders) which is probably where he learned his carpenter skills. He built many things in his lifetime. He attended Western Bible College in Golden, Colorado in his earlier years. It was in that time frame that he accepted Jesus' gift of salvation. He sang in a quartette during this time.Larry married Shirley Rose and had two children with her, Rosemary (Morehead) Johnson and Daniel Morehead. Later he married Lou Nelson and with her had a daughter, Lisa Kay Morehead. He lived in various places during his life. When he moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, he worked for the City Utilities Gas Division for twenty-seven years and retired in 1996.Larry asked Jesus for one more chance at marriage and Jesus answered that prayer by bringing a small town (Calhan, Colorado) farm girl into his life, Ruth Kobilan.Larry and Ruth met at a mutual friends anniversary party and after about a year they were married June 18, 1978, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Calhan, Colorado. This was a new beginning for both of them as Ruth also prayed similarly for another chance at marriage. Thus began a new chapter in both their lives. They danced polka, square, old fashioned 1800's dance, camped, and worked together on many building projects.Larry and Ruth did their best to serve their Lord Jesus by helping and serving others. Both have a love of music. They both played together, Larry-guitar, Ruth-accordion, in churches, nursing homes, etc. They sang and played at the Cowboy Church at the El Paso County Fair in Calhan, Colorado along with Rick Cofer for approximately ten years. Larry also became involved in a quartette at High Park Baptist Church where "L" and "R" attended then. This quartette blossomed into eleven men called "Men of God". They toured all over Colorado singing in various churches. Ruth went along with as their historian taking lots of pictures and collecting memorabilia along the way.Larry and Ruth were at Highland Park Baptist Church fifteen years, 1979-1994, then Fellowship Bible Church fifteen years, 1994-2009. Larry headed a moving ministry at Fellowship Bible Church. Then they attended Roswell Community Church 2009-present.God blessed them with forty-four years of marriage.Larry is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Morehead; daughters, Rosemary (Don) Johnson of North Platte, Nebraska, Lisa Kay Morehead of North Carolina; son, Dan Morehead of Creede, Colorado; grandchildren, Jordon Johnson, Jason (Emily) Johnson, Justina (Brandon) Dean of Australia; great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Alexis, Indiana Dean, Jens and Junpier Johnson; brother, Leonard (Ellen) Morehead of Eufaula, Alabama; sisters, Carol Robinson of North Carolina, Charlotte (Bob) Happy of Fort Collins, Colorado; plus a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
