Obituary of Alene Myra Wisniewski

Alene M. Wisniewski, 67, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away June 17, 2022 at St. Francis Medical Center surrounded by family. Born in Chandler, Arizona, she was the daughter of the late Myra (Domaszewicz) Wisniewski of Colorado Springs, Colorado and John B. Wisniewski of Las Vegas, Nevada. She graduated from Air Academy High School in U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado in 1972. Alene studied nursing for several years and worked as an OB technician at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital. In 1978, she earned a BA in Business Administration from Columbia College, and earned a Masters of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California in 1988.From 1976-1980 she served in the United States Army with assignments in Missouri, Colorado, and Germany.Returning to Las Vegas after her military service, Alene worked in the business office at the Aladdin Hotel. She also worked as military/veteran's liaison for Senator Paul Laxalt. She was selected for the highly competitive Air Force's Copper Cap Contract Management Training Program and started her thirty-plus year Air Force contracting career. She worked numerous programs, including the F-16 program, the Missile Defense Agency and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. She retired as a GS-15. After retiring, she used her contracting skills working on the Navy's F-35 program. Alene had a heart of gold, a quick smile, easy hospitality and readily opened her doors to any in need of refreshment, rest, relaxation and counsel. She volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America, the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, and mentored many fellow co-workers, giving selflessly of her time, experience, and encouragement. She sponsored several cadets, including her nephew, Kyle, and supported the Air Force Academy's SPIRE program. Many a feast was shared at her table and many a barbeque held in her backyard. Her nephew, Nick, enjoyed weeks in the summer adventuring with Aunt Alene. Alene's hobbies included music, reading, gardening, traveling with her beloved mother/companion, and shopping. Her love of gardening motivated her to volunteer with The Friends of the Mesa Road Garden, a xeriscape demonstration garden operated by Colorado Springs Utilities. Her volunteer work led to a contract position with them.Being the generous soul that Alene was, she was an organ donor, and with the expert guidance of her niece, Caitlin, Alene's corneas were donated to Rocky Mountain Eye Institute.She attended Mass at St. Francis of Assisi in Colorado Springs, Colorado.She is survived by three sisters, Barbara (Arthur) Ratkewicz, Helen (Peter) Thornton, and Christine (Eugene) Brandt; beloved nephews, Kyle (Caitlin), and Nikolaus Brandt; father, John Boguslaw Wisniewski; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.Vigil, 10:00AM, Thursday, July 14, 2022, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919.
