Obituary of William F. Rogers
William F. Rogers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, medical doctor, bison rancher, and friend, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 18, 2022, at home with his wife and sons present. Bill was born June 29, 1946 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, graduating from Scottsbluff High School in 1964 before attending University of Nebraska in Lincoln. After his sophomore year, Bill was accepted into University of Nebraska's Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska. Graduating from Medical School in 1971 and the following weekend he got married to his college sweetheart who is also from Scottsbluff, Kathleen Welsch. After graduating and marriage, Bill furthered his training and completed his medical internship at USC-LA County Hospital. Upon his completion, he and Kathleen left California, as Bill joined the US Navy and was trained in Pensacola, Florida before serving as a Naval flight surgeon at the Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Receiving honorable discharge for his service, Bill returned to USC-LA County Hospital to start his residency and career in Interventional Radiology. In 1980, Bill and Kathleen moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he joined the Colorado Springs Radiologist, P.C. (PENRAD Imaging) before starting his family. Bill was required to retire early from his profession in 2001 after being diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Stage 4 brain tumor and was given a devastating outlook of six to eight months life expectancy following the surgery. Instead of letting this get him down, he continued to "enjoy life" as he often put it. Bill loved being with his family, watching sports, reading all things science, and spending time re-living his ranching upbringing by working at his bison ranch in Western Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Frank Rogers and Priscilla Chain Rogers.Dr. Bill Rogers is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Kathleen W. Rogers; and sons, Matthew W. Rogers, and Jeffery W. Rogers (Heather); brother, John C. Rogers, MD.; and sister, Marty Davis; grandchildren, Adele and Eleanor Rogers. Everyone will miss Bill's smile, firm handshake, sense of warmth, can do attitude and enjoyment of life. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, food or gifts, memorial donations can be made in Bill's name and memory to Roundup River Ranch (https://roundupriverranch.org/support-us/donate-now/). Roundup River Ranch offers old-fashioned, pure fun camp experiences for children with serious illnesses. The beautiful camp is located near Bill's bison ranch and offers campers the chance to take a true vacation from being "a patient" to enjoy the most extraordinarily ordinary joys of childhood. Bill's attitude of "enjoying life" and passion for outdoor activities are what embraces the camp's mission.Memorial Service 1:00PM, Thursday, July 21, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church, 219 Bijou Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
