Obituary of SSG William Albert Mathenia, U.S. Army,
William Albert Mathenia aka Big Al, Bill, Pop, Pops, and Papa, 70, He went on to be with the Lord June 22, 2022 quietly at home, and was a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado for over thirty-five years.He was born September 13, 1951 to William Marion Mathenia and Edna Olive (Norton) Mathenia in Tulare, California.William is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Faye Mathenia; parents, William Marion Mathenia and Edna Olive (Norton) Mathenia. He is survived by his sisters, Eydie (Gilbert) Lazalde, Dottie (Roy) Ronald; best friend/brother, Darryl Wood; children, Crystal (David) Gonzalez, Nannette (Marshall) Clark, Tina (Jeff) Moyer, William Petey (Monique) Mathenia; step-children, Shawna (Scott) Prather, Levi Prather, Shaina (Bradley) Podner; grandchildren, Tyler Mathenia, Isaiah Gonzalez, Helena Gonzalez, Chance Mathenia, Samantha Clark, David Moyer, Angela Moyer, Alyia Mathenia, MacKenzie Mathenia, Jace Mathenia, Jaydon Mathenia, Analie Mathenia, Harper Jo Mathenia;�great-grandchildren, Lillianna Mathenia, Elijah Mathenia; step great-grandchildren, Samuel Podner and Georgia Podner; William, a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He served in the Army for twenty-three in a half years, and held different titles and duties such as Calvery Scout. He also graduated from college as an Alpha Betta Cappa and got his degree in Business in Human Resources. �He greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends that turned into family. He enjoyed gatherings and get-togethers that allowed time to spend just chatting and listening as his family was his joy. His past times was watching church or T.V. Victory World Outreach, Jimmy Swaggart, and old movies. He loved listening to his favorite music, the occasional computer game, and playing his keyboard and guitars.�William was always known for holding a job or two and attending school. He kept up a lifelong pursuit for knowledge, saying "The more you learn, the more you know, no one can ever take your education away". One of his favorite bible verses was "The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation." Psalms 118 Verse 14 (NIV) and "I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done."
