Galen Marcell Lahman, 88, went home to be with his Lord on June 30, 2022. He was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, on July 31, 1933 and was a 1951 graduate of Cygnet High School. In 1953, Galen enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and after training was assigned to Camp Pendleton in California, where he met the love of his life. On October 30, 1954, Galen married Ethel Alice Hawk, and after several long deployments to Korea and Japan, completed his five years of military service, and was promoted to the rank of Captain. The couple then settled in Ohio for more than fifty years before moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2014.Galen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend of many. Though he grew up in humble surroundings, his life was full of adventure and achievement. At heart, Galen was a humble and outgoing man with an infectious smile who touched the lives of everyone he met. Privately, he was an avid reader, a mathematician, and a puzzler lover. Galen was also a lifelong musician who loved singing and playing the piano, the trumpet, and the harmonica. Publicly, he was a charismatic leader, an "ambitious entrepreneur," and an entertaining storyteller. After graduating from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Production and Personnel Management in 1960, Galen began his professional life as a salesman for the International Business Machine Corporation before leaving to become the first Chief of Data Processing for the Toledo Board of Education. A few years later, he left Toledo to continue his education and moved to Columbus, Ohio to complete a Master's Degree in Educational Development from the Ohio State University. His love of people, education, and computers led him to DeVry University where he taught and mentored students for twenty years before retiring in 2002.Galen was always curious about new things and loved meeting new people. His whole life was spent in pursuit of learning, business opportunities, and helping others. He was a Dale Carnegie instructor, a business leader for the Shaklee Corporation since joining in 1977, and an active volunteer for many different civic, religious, and service organizations. He was also a man of prayer, a student of the Bible, and a dedicated volunteer, minister, and elder in his church. Galen was preceded in death by Ethel, his wife of sixty-five years; parents, Burley and Helen Lahman; and sister, Janice Poolman.
