Obituary of I.J. "Janie" Hammontree

I.J. "Janie" Hammontree of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on July 17, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born November 14,1926 to the union of John Axel and Elizabeth Hirsch (Bastian) Westerberg in Sioux City, Iowa.Janie was a one-of-a-kind person. Her heritage was so important to her. She loved telling everyone stories about her past life. Her entire world revolved around the family. All the children in her life, even the neighborhood kids over the years called her "Granny"; and when they were grown, she was still "Granny". Janie loved it when Carol would throw a party. She always arrived early with loving arms open wide for everyone. Janie always wanted to know when the next party was going to happen.Being a Christian was a very large part of Janie's life. She was a loyal follower of Jesus Christ and often spoke about going to Heaven and what a joyous day it would be for her. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James W. Hammontree; two brothers, William B. and Harris C. Westerberg; grandson, Owen W. Howard; great-grandson, Taygan R. Howard; and great-granddaughter, Genevieve R. Howard.Janie is survived by her son, R. Owen (Geni) Wallen; and daughter, Carol J. (Mike) Parker; three brothers, Roger J., John A. (Perle), and Richard D. Westerberg; sister, Linda E. Arthur; two grandsons, Michael J. and Joseph S. (Monica) Howard; step-grandsons, Ryan M. and Daniel B. Parker; and step-granddaughter, Jamie S. Parker; four great-grandsons, Aaron R., Johnathon M.(Jenny), Thaddeus J. (TJ), and Dominic S. Howard; step-great-grandson, Nicholas P. Mason; and step-great-granddaughter, Olivia R. Mason; and three great-great grandsons, Owen W., Theodore K., and John L. Howard.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the loving kindnesses of Lumicare Hospice, especially to Kirby G. for her special care with Janie over the past few months. They made declining health issues so much more comfortable for her and they were so very precious to Janie. The family also wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Broadmoor Court for their kindness and attention to Janie.
