Obituary of Shirley Louise Parr

Shirley Louise (Fryer) Parr, 81, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was surrounded by her loving family at her passing.Shirley was born February 26, 1941 to Elwood Buffington and Eunice Ruth (Klatt) Fryer in Washington, DC. She spent much of her childhood in Hilo, Hawaii, and spoke fondly of her time there. Throughout her life, she loved Hawaiian music and culture and would often dance the hula for family and friends. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology at Ohio State University where she met John Parr during her senior year. They married on December 28, 1963 in Cleveland, Ohio and became parents to six children. She briefly taught high school biology, and beginning in 1966, chose to devote herself full-time to the care of her home and family. Together, John and Shirley created a life full of love, laughter and countless adventures. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, John Parr; her sister, Bonnie (Robert) Nietz; her children, William (Lori) Parr, Heather (Timothy) Sheehan, Douglas (Christy) Parr, Catherine Parr, Shannon (Stephen) Foote, Janet (Trenton) Schlosser; eighteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren (with another one on the way). She was blessed to have only been preceded in death by her parents, Elwood and Eunice Fryer. Shirley loved her family thoroughly, and as it grew, she enjoyed happy moments and gatherings of celebration and life. She treated her friends like family and they played a special part in her happiness. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found joy in Christ-like service as often as she could. She will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, love, and beauty.
