Obituary of Louella Loraine Marie Miller
Louella Loraine Marie Miller was requested by God to be in His presence on August 8, 2022. Louella passed in her home, as she had wished, surrounded by the love of family. She was born in Massena, New York on February 11, 1934 to Hormidas and Jeanne Simone (Barbeau) Saumure.
She is preceded in death by both her parents; her brothers, Lucien, Rolland, and George Saumure; her husband, William Lewis Miller; and her daughter, Kathleen Celeste Miller.
She is survived by daughters, Louella Loraine Francis Miller and Gloria Marie Miller; son, William Lucien Miller who was her care giver for eight years; grandchildren, Thomas (Mary) Resha, Christopher (Kirin) Resha, AJ (Harrison) Resha, and Jeffery Hammond; and great-grandchildren, Lilly, Thomas Resha, Tyler and Kelly Wood, and Matthew Ryan Hammond.
After moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1950 with her mother and brother, George and his wife Vera from Syracuse, New York, she graduated from Colorado Springs High School (Palmer High) in 1952. During her senior year, through school, she was employed by Prudential Life Insurance Company as a secretary.
Her favorite pastimes were playing her piano, and roller skating at Skateland on West Colorado Avenue. This was where she met her future husband, Bill. As Bill skated by Louella, he kicked her legs from under her and caught her in free-fall. Bill and Louella were the first couple in Colorado Springs of mixed religion to be married in the Catholic faith. They were married on October 9, 1954 at Pauline Chapel in the Broadmoor at 6:00pm, and were married for fifty-three years. Together, Louella and Bill would celebrate life with four children, Louella, William, Kathleen, and Gloria. They ran their own print shop, Bill's Print Shop until the early 1970's. At various times the older children, Louella and Bill, were included in various jobs at the print shop.
Louella then became a secretary in School District #2 at Gorman Junior High School. Louella and Bill were one of the founding families of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stratton Meadows. Louella held a position in the Women's Guild and sang in the choir. Every Saturday the children went to Chamberlain Elementary for CCD classes. They would carry boxes to be put by the doors in the gym for Sunday's Mass; where people could drop off S&H Green Stamps, Gold Stamps, Betty Crocker Coupons and Proctor & Gamble points - which Louella used to purchase and set up the Rectory kitchen and bathroom.
Louella loved to crochet, she created many items for family, friends, or to be sold at the church. She enjoyed reading Amish Life books, crosswords and word search books. Louella would go on working in the insurance industry until retirement. Louella had a very deep relationship with the Lord. She prayed several times a day for her family, friends, and the world.
