Obituary of Alicia Kathryn Granados
Alicia Granados was born on March 30, 2003 to Mario Granados and Emmy Handen in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She grew up surrounded by a large family and community of friends.Alicia died as she lived: doing it "her way." She was an independent thinker and held true to her values, even when giving in would probably have been easier. We will remember her vivacious laugh, her off-beat sense of humor, and her willingness to debate any (yes...any!) topic. She didn't take anything at face value - always searching for a deeper understanding, even of herself.Overwhelming depression was a daily struggle for Alicia, one that she stood up to for years. However, even with the support from family and friends, as well as several professionals, Alicia chose to end her battle with mental illness on August 12, 2022.Alicia is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Steve Handen of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and her paternal grandparents, Jose Elijio Granados and Santos Bermudez of El Salvador. She is survived by her parents, Mario Granados and Emmy Handen; her brother, Cristian Granados; and her grandmother, Mary Lynn Sheetz, all of Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to NAMI Colorado Springs. https://www.namicoloradosprings.org/Visitation, 3:00PM-4:00PM, Thursday, August 18, 2022, The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.Funeral Service, 4:00PM, Thursday, August 18, 2022, The Springs Funeral Services.
