Obituary of Susan Elizabeth Kaelin

Susan Elizabeth Kaelin went to rest snugly in God's arms on August 12, 2022. "Come to Me when you are weak and weary. Rest snugly in My everlasting arms." - Jesus Calling (August 12), by Sarah Young. She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel A. and Joyce Kaelin; and her brother, Thomas Kaelin. Susan is survived by her husband, Matt Swan; sisters, Kaelin (Chuck) Lungren, Elaine (Jim) Hipps and Loretta Kaelin; other family members, Cecily, Julian and Aydan Kaelin, Lawrence Kaelin, Garrett Hipps, Kolette McKillips and Reuben Levin; as well as many other friends and family that loved her dearly. Susan once coined the term "a roller coaster" to describe supreme challenges, and after a ten month fight, Susan exited that roller coaster ride. Susan loved elephants. One of her favorite sayings when faced with a daunting task was "The only way to eat an elephant, is one bite at a time." "Susu", or "Q" as she was called by many, was born January 11, 1967 in Exeter, New Hampshire. She resided in Colorado Springs and Woodland Park, Colorado for most of her life, but also resided in New York and Germany before landing in Colorado at age 6. Susan graduated from Roy J Wasson High School in 1985. Her career as a self taught computer program trainer enabled her to travel, as did her career as a chef. She graduated from Aspen Pointe Cafe Culinary School in 2015. "Cheffing it up" was Susan's passion and joy, and she worked for various kitchens including the Grizzly Grill at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, as well as Bristol Brewery at the Colorado Springs Airport. Susan loved and lived to be a "foodie" and an "animal lover", and also enjoyed all things artistic and in the spiritual realm (stones and crystals and meditational practices). Susan had a bubbly and no-nonsense, full of life personality and will be dearly missed by many. Susan was surely greeted at the gates of Heaven by her loving family, and her dearly beloved dog, (Creme) Brulee. We hope you can join us for her Celebration of Life. Celebration of Life, 1:00PM, Sunday, September 11, 2022, Ivywild School, Wildcat Room, 1604 South Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80905. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Matt or Elaine. We are asking everyone to sign the guest book and bring a photo or printed story about an elephant if you would like. It was Susan's favorite animal, and we thought we could have an elephant themed party in her honor. The room that the event will be in has one of the elephant enclosure doors from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in it. It couldn't be more fitting. Again, please send Elaine or Matt a quick RSVP if you plan to drop in.
