Obituary of Muriel Smith
Muriel Smith was born on July 21, 1933 to Luther and Gladys Robinson. She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey where she lived most of her childhood. Muriel was the oldest of thirteen children and was twenty-five years older than her youngest sibling. She occasionally told her children she dated Flip Wilson in high school; at times we would ask her, "why didn't you marry him?" and she would always respond by saying "because God had something better for me".Muriel aspired to go to college after graduating high school, but the funds were not available, so she joined The United States Air Force on August 15, 1952. While in the Air Force, she met her husband, William W. Smith. During this same time, she was involved in a severe car accident that left her hospitalized for a year. Later, she was honorably discharged from the military with a disability. She married William, had four children and became a full-time stay-at-home mom.In 1962, Muriel received Salvation while attending a revival under a female Evangelist; her husband found The Lord that same year. In the year of1971, her husband retired from The Air Force and decided to make Colorado Springs, Colorado their home. He began his ministry at Royer Street Church of God. Muriel had the privilege to be the First Lady of the church where she continuously prayed and sought The Lord regarding the ministry and members, to help build the vision of the House of God. She was blessed to return to school and she received a Bachelors of Arts and obtained her Masters of Social Work Degree at Denver University. She began her first civilian job at the age of 52 and retired as a Social Worker, with El Paso County at the age 65. God had a powerful plan for her and her husband's life. They shared a vision from God to build a Church and named it Full Gospel Church of God. Full Gospel is where she dedicated her life's work until God called her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, William W.
