Obituary of David Eugene Lavelett

David Eugene Lavelett passed away peacefully on October 28, 2022, resting in the home he built for his daughter and wife. A life-long resident of the Colorado Springs area, David graduated from Mitchell High School. He briefly attended the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo, and spent a year in Tucson, Arizona before returning to his hometown. He met the love of his life, Suzette, at the Townhouse Bar in Manitou Springs. Shortly after their first date, they moved in together, and for the next thirty-six years, they would not spend more than three days apart from one another until Suzette's death in December 2008. Together, they cultivated a life based on the "hippie" ideals of their youth, raising their only daughter, Kristen with a shared commitment to peace, love, and compassion, and a whole lotta rock 'n' roll in the mix. A love of music and a love of nature were two of David's defining traits. David's most beloved past time was camping. He led his family on many excursions through the peaks and passes of Colorado's Rocky Mountains, and later in life he fell deeply in love with desert landscapes of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Utah. When David was not camping, we were building. A professional bricklayer by trade, David also devoted his nights and weekends to building a home for his family, completing every detail by hand. The completion of this home in 1992, and the next twenty years he spent living in that home, mark his devotion to providing for his family. David is preceded in death by his wife, Suzette; his mother, Atha; and his father, Vernon. He is survived by his older sister, Morita; and his devoted daughter, Kristen.
