Obituary of E. Marie Gardner

Evelyn Marie Gardner died on November 28, 2022. She was born March 26, 1930 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the daughter of the late Edgar G. and Evelyn M. (Gasaway) Bevens. On February 9, 1950 she married Robert R. Gardner and they had four children. Mrs. Gardner worked for the Colorado State Judicial Department and was Chief Clerk of the El Paso County District Court for twenty-five years before retiring in 1992. During her tenure as Clerk of Court, she served on the National Child Support Advisory Board, the Colorado State Judicial Department Reclassification and Salary Appeals Board, and the State Judicial Software Development Committee. She was a past officer and vice president of the National Association of Trial Court Administrators, a board member of the National Association of Court Management, and was president of the Colorado Association of Trial Court Administrators. She served as president of the El Paso County Legal Secretaries, and was a member of the Colorado and National Legal Secretaries Associations. Marie was a founder and singing member of the Colorado Springs Chorale for over sixty years. She served on the Board of the Colorado Springs Choral Society for over forty years, three terms as Chairperson. As a trustee of the Chorale Society, she has served on and chaired many committees. In 2006, she wrote and published a history of The Chorale. She organized the now defunct Chorale Guild and served two years as president. She also sang with Soli deo Gloria, The Chancel Choir of First Methodist Church, and the Columbine Barbershop group. Marie was a 1948 graduate of Colorado Springs High School, and received a master of science degree in Humanities and Psychology from the University of Southern Colorado. She was also a graduate of the Institute for Court Management. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and served on the board of the Rustic Hills Improvement Association. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Lynn Sperlik of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Connie Marie Gardner of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her sisters, Lucille Baughman of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Myrna Bevens of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her brother, Edgar Grant Bevens of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her grandchildren, Crystal Dudley, Michael Sperlik, and Nathan Sperlik; her great-grandsons, Christian Dudley, Luca Perea, and Grant Sperlik; and her great-granddaughter, Addison Marie Sperlik. Preceding her in death were her two sons, Russell Wayne, and Reggie Brian Gardner; her devoted husband, Robert Russell Gardner; and her brothers, Edmund L., and Edward L. Bevens.
