Obituary of Verna-Lea Turner

Verna-Lea Turner, 86, of Bakersfield, California passed away on December 3, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born on July 7, 1936 to Jerry H. and Velma Turner in Florence, Colorado. Verna-Lea attended Florence High School, and for her senior year, Colorado Springs High School, graduating in 1954. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in English and Education from Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma, and her master's degree in British and American Literature from Colorado University Boulder. She then went on to receive a master of graphoanalysis certificate from the International Graphoanalysis Society. Verna-Lea worked as a high school teacher in Kern County, Bakersfield, California for thirty-six years, and was an adjunct college professor at Bakersfield College for many years. She was involved in her local church and had a heart for International Missions. Verna-Lea enjoyed traveling abroad in places such as Russia, Switzerland, Belgium and made several trips to Israel. Verna-Lea published a book entitled "Hand Print, Heart Print Memorials " that shared stories from numerous friends of their "God Encounters." Verna-Lea is preceded in death by her sister, Leanora Snuggs; brother-in-law, Robert Snuggs; and parents Jerry and Velma Turner. Verna-Lea is survived by her niece, Beverly Snuggs (Mark) Chambers of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nephew, Terry (Peggy) Snuggs of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two great-nephews, Michael (Shannon) Snuggs, and Brock (Teresa) Chambers; two great-nieces, Angela Snuggs, and Shawna (Octavio) Mendez; and eight great-great-nieces and nephews. Our family wishes to extend our gratitude to the Juanita Essert family and Stacy Cason family, both of Bakersfield, California, as well as Brookdale Briargate Care facility and Bloom Health and Hospice Care of Colorado Springs, Colorado. We would also like to thank Dr. David Tomme for officiating her service.
