Two Mothers Remembered I had two Mothers - two Mothers I claim Two different people, yet with the same name. Two separate women, diverse by design, But I loved them both because they were mine. The first was the Mother who carried me here, Gave birth and nurtured and launched my career. She was the one whose features I bear, Complete with the facial expressions I wear. She gave me her love, which follows me yet, Along with the examples in life that she set. As I got older, she somehow younger grew, And we'd laugh just as Mothers and daughters should do. But then came the time that her mind clouded so, And I sensed that the Mother I knew would soon go. So quickly she changed and turned into the other, A stranger who dressed in the clothes of my Mother. Oh, she looked the same, at least at arm's length, But now she was the child and I was her strength. We'd come full circle, we women three, My Mother, the first the second and me. And if my own children should come to a day, When a new Mother comes and the old goes away, I'd ask of them nothing that I didn't do, Love both of your Mothers as both have loved you. by Joann Snow Duncanson

Norma was a dear woman. I always loved how she sang and prayed in church in her own special way. I will miss her. Take good care of yourself Cathy. Peace be with you.

I never felt my mom's adopted family was adopted & I know my mom didn't either. I remember the trips to California even when I was 5 & then when I was 9 & I'm sorry we lived so far away & didn't get to visit a lot. My sister Patty lived there for awhile so was able to spend time with all of you. Even though they were adopted, I see my mom in your mom's face. They're all together now, all 5 of them. Hugs, prayers & love to all of you. Love, Kay McCarthy Ketelaar

My and all my family members from Michigan send our express condolences to our entire Western States family of our mother's adopted family whose daughters shared a wonderful sibling relationship over so many years in the mid thirties and early 40's of our nations history. It was these people inclusive of Norma, her late husband and family whom made my mother's life so worthy so memorial. Just reading her name brings back such cherished days and memories of earlier days in Lansing, Owosso and other Michigan lakes where we and they spent indeed spent their own youth, many moons ago....................................my thoughts and prayers to all of you! Bob and Cathy McCarthy, Washington, MI

Norma had a strong and feisty spirit; although unable to communicate with words, she got her message across. It was an honor to have known her and her family.
